In a recent report, journalist Rudy Galetti mentioned that Arsenal are big admirers of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It has been revealed that the Gunners are keeping tabs on the Spanish talent’s situation at the La Liga club.
Zubimendi’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season
Zubimendi has enjoyed a good run of form for the Spanish outfit as he has put in a run of influential performances for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net once in six matches for Real Sociedad this season across various competitions.
The Spaniard has anchored the midfield with conviction for Real Sociedad and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.2 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 86.6% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Arsenal to sign him on the cheap this January or at the end of this campaign.
Should Arsenal Move In For Zubimendi?
Zubimendi is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. The Spain international is an accurate passer of the ball as well. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
We can expect Zubimendi to bring more bite and steel to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s midfield. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 25, Zubimendi has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to pursue this winter. However, the Spaniard might need some time to adjust to life in the Premier League. Still, Arteta would be wise to move in for him in the January transfer period.
