Liverpool Attempted Signing This Bayer Leverkusen Star: Will The Reds Return To Sign Him?

As revealed by Paisley Gates, Liverpool attempted to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz with a €92 million offer in early 2024. However, the player didn’t show any interest as he wanted to stay at the German club and help his team.

Florian Wirtz is in high demand

Florian Wirtz is one of the most highly-rated talents available in the world of football. He came through the ranks of Bayer Leverkusen Academy and made a name for himself. His growing reputation at the club level and the international arena cannot be ignored.

Wirtz was instrumental in helping Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title last season. He scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists in 49 games. He averaged 2.2 shots, 2.3 key passes, and 2.5 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).

The German is versatile enough to feature in any position in the attacking front. He is known to create goals out of nowhere and long-range shots. He is an effective dribbler and possesses the ability to provide quality line-breaking passes.

Liverpool can return but will have to break the bank

As per the report, Liverpool made a €92 million offer in early 2024, which means under Jurgen Klopp. The German manager must have wanted Florian Wirtz to fill Dominik Szoboszlai‘s shoes, who was running out of form. However, Wirtz decided to continue with the German side and script history.

Despite a managerial change at Anfield, the Reds might return to sign the 21-year-old in the near future. Wirtz remains a lucrative option and having him at his disposal would be a blessing. However, there is stiff competition for the player.

Many major European clubs are eyeing signing highly-rated talent. Moreover, Bayer Leverkusen are trying to extend his contract to get a complete hold on him. In such conditions, Liverpool will have to break the bank and improve their previous offer of €92 million.
