As reported by Football Insider, Manchester City have set their eyes on Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Xavi Simons. The Premier League club believe the Dutchman could be a perfect long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne.
Xavi Simons is rising and rising
Xavi Simons is a La Masia graduate, who joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2019. Unable to establish himself there, he went on to join PSV later on. However, the French club triggered the buyback clause to get the talent back in hand.
Simons played for RB Leipzig last season as a loanee and set the stage with his excellent performances. He netted 10 goals and provided 15 assists in 43 games. He averaged 2.3 shots, 2.4 key passes, and 1.9 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutchman is versatile enough to play in multiple positions in the offensive areas. His control over the ball is terrific and with visionary passing, he is always a threat to the opponents. With time, he is improving further and can unleash a new version of himself.
Xavi Simons has the potential to fill Kevin De Bruyne’s shoes
Kevin De Bruyne has been a mainstay at Manchester City over the past decade. A lot of credit goes to him for the club’s success in recent years. However, as he is marching into the twilight of his career, the club needs to find a long-term successor.
Though replacing a player like De Bruyne is almost impossible, a high-quality player can do the job. To fill the shoes, the Citizens believe Xavi Simons will be a good choice. Given his similar profile and extraordinary talent, he has the potential to do the difficult job.
The 21-year-old is bound to get better and better with time. Should he continue to develop his game, he is set to enter into elite names. However, Manchester City will have to splash a big amount as PSG aren’t going to let the hot property leave that easily.
