In a recent report, InterLive.it claimed that Newcastle United are in pole position to sign Inter Milan wide player Denzel Dumfries this winter. It has been stated that the Magpies are ready to launch an offer worth €22m for the Dutch talent in the January transfer window.
Dumfries’ Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A
Dumfries enjoyed a solid campaign at the Italian club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the right flank. The 28-year-old found the back of the net four times and secured six assists in 36 matches for Inter Milan last season in multiple competitions.
The Dutch talent managed to shine at times on both halves based on his average of 0.7 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 0.8 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after completing 80.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at San Siro will expire at the end of this campaign which could give Newcastle United a chance to sign him on a cut-price deal in the January transfer period.
Will Dumfries Be A Good Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Dumfries is a solid tackler of the ball and can put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes from the right flank.
The Dutch sensation is a good crosser of the ball and can make a few driving runs with it in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a right-back if needed.
We can expect Dumfries to add more quality to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s first team. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and could be a real asset in the Tyneside club‘s squad over the next few years.
At 28, Dumfries is playing in his prime which makes him a good fit for Newcastle‘s needs at the moment. Therefore, Howe would be wise to try and arrange a cut-price move for him when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
