In a recent report, Marca claimed that Barcelona could re-sign Celta de Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza. It has been stated that the Catalan club could bring the Spanish full-back to the Nou Camp for just €10m next year.
Mingueza’s Impressive Form In La Liga Last Season
Mingueza had a solid campaign at the Spanish club as he put in a string of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The 25-year-old scored two goals and picked up three assists in 41 matches for Celta de Vigo last season on all fronts.
The Spanish talent caught the eye at times at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 0.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 80.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2026. However, Barca has a 50% sell-on clause which could open the door for them to sign Mingueza on the cheap next year.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Bring Mingueza Back To The Nou Camp?
Mingueza is a solid tackler of the ball and doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. He can strike the ball well from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the pitch.
The Spanish talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly operates as a right-back but can also serve as a central defender or as a right-sided wide player if needed.
Mingueza already knows Barcelona well from his previous spell with them as a youth player. Hence, he won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Nou Camp. Mingueza is good enough to earn a regular spot in Hansi Flick’s first team.
At 25, the Spaniard has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Catalan club to consider next year. All in all, Barca would be wise to bring Mingueza back this January or at the end of this campaign.
