In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Real Madrid are big admirers of Arsenal defender William Saliba. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are keen on recruiting the French centre-back next year.
Saliba’s Impressive Form In The Premier League Last Season
Saliba had a solid campaign at the North London club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old made 50 appearances for the Gunners last season, netting two goals and securing one assist on all fronts.
The French talent was a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 92.6% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Saliba is under contract at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Los Blancos to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Saliba Up?
Saliba is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.92m, the French talent can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. He has already proven his worth at the highest level and could be a real asset in Real Madrid‘s squad.
We can expect Saliba to add more bite and steel to Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Madrid club in the coming years. At 23, Saliba has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Los Blancos to pursue in 2025.
The French defensive ace might even help the Madrid giants compete for a lot of major trophies over the next few years. Therefore, Ancelotti would be wise to snap him up this winter or at the end of this campaign.
