As reported by The Anfield Talk, Liverpool are keen on signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton next summer. The former club are impressed with the youngster and want to acquire his services early to get the dividends later on.
Adam Wharton has been impressive so far
Adam Wharton came through the ranks of Blackburn Rovers Academy. He moved to Crystal Palace last winter on a five-and-a-half-year contract. In a short time, he has already managed to establish himself as a young prospect with a lot of potential.
Wharton played the second half of last campaign with Crystal Palace. In total, he featured in 45 games last season and netted two goals apart from providing six assists. He averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and 1.2 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The English midfielder is technically sound and can dictate the flow of the game. He is not a lucrative pick who would make too many dribbles or something. He is known for his defensive solidity and making continuous progressive passes.
A long-term investment for Liverpool
Liverpool signed only two players in the summer window despite a managerial change. They refrained from overspending as they already had a quality squad with all the bases covered. However, they might be tempted to go big the next summer.
For now, it seems like they have set their eyes on Adam Wharton. The youngster has had a good start to the Premier League life and holds massive potential. He has all the qualities to play for any top-tier club as a first-choice pick.
The 20-year-old’s calmness and maturity on the field are testimony to that statement. He can be a long-term investment for the Reds. Should he continue to develop his game and add more dimensions, he will generate interest from more European clubs in the coming months.
