In a recent report, TuttoMercatoWeb revealed that Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior was generating interest from Italy earlier this summer. It has been mentioned that Bologna, Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Napoli were showing interest in recruiting the Polish centre-back from the Gunners recently.
Kiwior’s Important Role In North London Last Season
Kiwior served as a decent squad player at the Emirates Stadium in the previous campaign when he put in a handful of solid displays on the defensive end of the field. The 24-year-old made 30 appearances for Arsenal last season, scoring one goal and earning three assists in various competitions.
The Polish striker proved his worth when defending inside his half by averaging 1.0 tackles and 1.2 clearances per game in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 85.8% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Arsenal will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, Mikel Arteta is under no pressure to cash in on him next year.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Let Kiwior Go In January?
Kiwior loves a tackle and can sense the danger well inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. Standing at 1.89m, the Polish talent can use his robust frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. He is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a holding midfielder or as a left-back if asked to do so.
However, at the moment, Kiwior finds himself on the fringes of Mikel Arteta‘s squad. He has fallen behind Gabriel, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori in Arsenal‘s pecking order. Thus, it is only fair to the player if the Gunners let him go when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
At 24, the best is yet to come from Kiwior as long as he continues to mature with each year. However, he needs to opt for a change of scenery soon in search of more game time. The North London club could even use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad next year.
