In a recent report, The Athletic provided an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur prospect Alfie Devine. It has been stated that the English playmaker is set to join KVC Westerlo on loan from Spurs this week.
Devine’s Impressive Loan Spell At Plymouth
Devine had a promising loan spell at Plymouth Argyle recently as he put in a few eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The 20-year-old made 15 appearances for the English club in league football, picking up a couple of assists in the process on all fronts.
The talented youngster proved his worth at times in the opponent’s half by averaging 0.8 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He even distributed the ball relatively well after making 75.3% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Tottenham will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it makes sense for Spurs to send him out on loan once again as he would struggle to earn regular playing minutes at the North London club this season.
Devine Is Set To Join KVC Westerlo On Loan From Tottenham Hotspur: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Devine can create some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to engineer the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. The English talent can also make a few clever runs with the ball. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a striker up top if told to do so by his manager.
Devine has the potential to be a future star at Tottenham as long as he continues to develop with each season. Thus, it makes sense for the youngster to seal a loan move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of more game time this season.
Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu would hope that Devine can come back as a much-improved version of himself next summer. All in all, a loan switch to Westerlo would be a good move for both the player and the North London club.
