In a recent report, AS claimed that Real Madrid have set their sights on Manchester City star Rodri next summer. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish talent to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the end of this campaign.
Rodri’s Incredible Season At The Etihad Stadium
Rodri had an excellent campaign at Man City recently as he put in a lot of influential displays at the heart of Pep Guardiola’s midfield. The 28-year-old deserves a ton of credit for scoring nine times and earning 14 assists in 50 matches for the Mancunian club last season in all competitions.
The Spain international was a decent contributor at the centre of the park based on his average of 2.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 92.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Los Blancos to land him on the cheap next year.
What Will Rodri Bring To Real Madrid?
Rodri is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The Spanish sensation has also got the vision to orchestrate some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a centre-back if needed.
We can expect Rodri to bring more quality and depth to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield department. He is good enough to help Los Blancos challenge for some major honours over the next few years.
At 28, Rodri is playing at the peak of his career which makes him a worthy target for the Madrid outfit to pursue this January or at the end of this season. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
