In a recent tweet, journalist Sean Whetstone mentioned that West Ham United are unwilling to let Danny Ings leave this summer. It has been stated that the English talent is happy with his life at the East London club.
Ings’ Limited Role At The London Stadium
Ings struggled to earn regular first-team starts at West Ham last season. The English forward participated in 30 matches for the Hammers in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net just once across all competitions.
The 32-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench which could be why he only averaged 0.6 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He even lacked quality when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing just 72.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at West Ham will run out at the end of this campaign. Therefore, the Hammers could be inclined to cash in on him soon or else risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
West Ham United Are Unwilling To Let Ings Leave: Good Move For Both Parties?
Ings is an experienced striker who can find some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can chip in by scoring the odd goal from time to time. However, frequent injuries and limited game time have often hampered his progress at West Ham. Furthermore, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive end of the pitch.
At the moment, Ings finds himself behind Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug in Julen Lopetegui’s pecking order. At 32, he might still have a good season left in him to play at his best if he can steer clear of injuries.
Therefore, it seems like a good move for both the player and the East London club to not part ways with each other this summer. Ings has got the experience and skill set to help the Hammers challenge across all fronts this season. Thus, Lopetegui would be wise to keep hold of him until the end of this campaign when his contract is set to come to an end at the East London club.
