In a recent tweet, journalist Resat Can Ozbudak offered an update on the future of Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier. It has been stated that the English defender has agreed to leave the Magpies and join Eyüpspor.
Trippier’s Impressive Form In The Premier League Last Season
Trippier had a decent campaign at St. James’ Park recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays on the right side of Newcastle’s defence. The English talent played in 39 matches for the Tyneside club last season, finding the back of the net once and picking up 11 assists in multiple competitions.
The 33-year-old was a good performer on the right flank based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 2.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He even distributed possession relatively well after making 79.7% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Tyneside club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, there is no immediate need for Emery to cash in on him.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Cut Trippier Loose This Summer?
Trippier loves a tackle and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. The English sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a right-back but can also function as a left-back if required.
At the moment, Trippier remains an important member of Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s match-day squad. However, he has fallen behind Tino Livramento in the Tyneside club‘s pecking order.
At 33, Trippier has only got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Therefore, the talented full-back could benefit from a change of scenery soon in search of game time in the future. With all things considered, the Magpies should consider cutting Trippier loose and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
