In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler wants to join West Ham United this summer. Romano said,
“The player (Soler) wants to go to West Ham, it’s about the director who is pushing, it’s about the manager, who is Spanish, Lopetegui. So this could also be an important factor. “So talks are taking place, and I think before the end of the window, West Ham can go strong on this deal to get it done.”
Soler’s Impressive Form In French Football
Soler served as an important member of PSG’s squad in the previous campaign when he put in a run of impressive displays for them in Ligue 1. He was involved in 28 matches for his current club last season, netting two goals and earning four assists across multiple competitions.
The Spanish talent made a lot of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.6 tackles, 0.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in Ligue 1 football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 87.5% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
Is Soler A Good Fit For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Soler is a good tackler of the ball and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. He can even strike the ball with venom from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team.
The Spanish talent is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate in the number ten position or as a right-sided wide player if needed. We can expect him to bring more quality and depth to West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui’s midfield department.
At 27, Soler is playing in his prime which makes him a decent fit for the East London club‘s needs this summer. Therefore, the Hammers would be wise to move in for him before the end of this summer transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
