In a recent report, ABC Sevilla mentioned that Everton are facing stiff competition for Sevilla full-back Gonzalo Montiel this summer. It has been revealed that the Toffees would have to rival Nottingham Forest and Borussia Dortmund in the race to land the Argentina international in this transfer window.
Montiel’s Impressive Loan Spell At The City Ground
Montiel had a decent loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season when he put in a handful of impressive performances on the right side of their backline. The 27-year-old registered three assists in 19 matches for the Midlands club in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The Argentine talent was a solid performer on the defensive end of the field as he averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the right-back position after making 78.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Sevilla will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Toffees to land him on the cheap this summer.
Everton Are Facing Stiff Competition For Montiel: Is He Worth The Fight?
Montiel is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can create some inviting chances for his teammates up top.
The Argentine right-back has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and could be a good asset in Everton’s squad this season. He would bring more quality to Sean Dyche’s defence and help the Toffees compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
At 27, Montiel is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for Everton to consider in this summer transfer window. Therefore, the Merseyside club should focus on getting a deal done for the Argentine talent before the end of this month.
Montiel already knows the Premier League well from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Goodison Park. With all things considered, he would be well worth the fight, so Everton should step up their pursuit of him.
