In a recent report, AS claimed that West Ham United are close to landing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler this month. It has been revealed that the Hammers are inching closer to recruiting the Spanish talent on a loan deal which includes a mandatory purchase option for €20m next summer.
Soler’s Limited Game Time At Parc Des Princes Last Season
Soler was a decent squad player for the French outfit in the previous campaign but struggled to be consistent for them in Ligue 1. The Spaniard made 28 appearances for PSG last season, netting a couple of goals and picking up four assists in all competitions.
The 27-year-old saw a lot of his game time come as a substitute which explains why he averaged 0.6 tackles, 0.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was careful when distributing possession from midfield after completing 87.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at PSG will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for West Ham to snap him up on the cheap before the end of this month.
Will Soler Be A Good Fit For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Soler loves a tackle and can shoot the ball with power from long range. He can even engineer the odd chance for his teammates to score. However, the Spanish talent has to find a way to earn more first-team starts if he wants to make the most out of his playing career.
Furthermore, there are some question marks over whether Soler would be able to handle the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Hammers manage to get a deal over the line for him in this transfer window.
At 27, Soler has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent fit for West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui’s needs this summer. He would inject more quality and depth into the East London club‘s midfield.
The Spaniard will also help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the coming years. All in all, it makes sense for West Ham to try and bring Soler to the London Stadium before the end of this transfer period.
