Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. It has been claimed that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the English midfield ace in this transfer window.
Gallagher’s Decent Run Of Form At Stamford Bridge
Gallagher had an impressive campaign at the West London club after he put in a string of decent displays for them at the centre of the park. The 24-year-old found the back of the net seven times and earned nine assists in 50 matches for Chelsea last season in all competitions.
The Epsom-born talent was a decent contributor in the middle of the field as he averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate with his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 91.5% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Spurs could potentially sign him on the cheap this month.
Is Gallagher A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Gallagher is a good tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
The English talent has got the eye to set up a few decent plays for others around him and is an energetic runner with the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a holding midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if needed.
We can expect Gallagher to enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 24, Gallagher has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Spurs to consider this summer. Therefore, Postecoglu should focus on going all out to bring him on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
