In a recent tweet, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement with Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia. It has been claimed that the Gunners have identified the Spanish custodian as a replacement for Aaron Ramdale if he leaves in this transfer window.
Garcia’s Impressive Rise In Spanish Football
Garcia had a solid campaign at Espanyol recently as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in La Liga 2. The 23-year-old featured in 21 matches for the Spanish club last season, conceding ten goals and earning 12 clean sheets across all fronts.
The Spanish talent has caught the eye with his performances for Espanyol over the past 12 months. He is currently amongst the best young keepers in Spanish football, so Arsenal would do well to snap him up this summer.
His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Gunners to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer period.
Will Garcia Be A Good Signing For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Garcia is a good handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make some solid saves at the back. Standing at 1.91m, he is a towering presence in the air and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when being chased down by the opposition attackers.
However, the Spanish goalie is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adjust to the high intensity of Premier League football if the Gunners manage to get him on board this month.
Garcia would no doubt enhance the quality of Arsenal‘s match-day squad. He is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to David Raya at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 23, there is still a lot of room for improvement in Garcia’s game, so Mikel Arteta would be wise to get a deal done for him if he ends up losing Aaron Ramsdale this month. Garcia has showcased his true potential in Spain and could prove to be a decent signing for the Gunners in the long run. Still, Arteta needs to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the Spanish keeper at the Emirates Stadium.
