In a recent report, The Mirror mentioned that Real Madrid are big admirers of Manchester City star Rodri. It has been stated that Los Blancos are keeping a keen eye on the Spain international with Man City hoping to tie him down to a new contract by giving him a pay rise.
Rodri’s Impressive Form For Both His Club And Country
Rodri had a brilliant campaign at Man City recently and went on to help Spain win the UEFA Euro 2024 trophy earlier this summer. The Spanish midfield ace made 50 appearances for the Mancunian club last season, scoring nine times and securing 14 assists on all fronts.
The 28-year-old was a decent contributor at both ends of the field and did well to average 2.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after making 92.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Rodri is under contract at the Mancunian club until the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Los Blancos to land him on a cut-price deal this month.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Get Rodri On Board?
Rodri is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and can unlock the opposition defence with some decisive passes from midfield.
The Spain international can strike the ball with venom from long range and can also make some driving runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a holding midfielder but can also fill in as a centre-half or as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
Rodri would add a lot of quality to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s first team. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the future.
At 28, Rodri is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an instant impact at the Madrid club. Therefore, Ancelotti should focus on getting him on board this summer or next year.
