In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Aston Villa are locked in a three-way battle for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah this summer. It has been claimed that the Villans would face competition in the form of Fulham and Crystal Palace in the race to land the English centre-back this month.
Chalobah’s Recent Season In West London
The 25-year-old served as a valuable member of Chelsea’s squad last season but failed to nail down a regular starting spot at the West London club. Chalobah participated in 17 matches for his current employers in the previous campaign, netting one goal on all fronts.
The English talent was a decent performer on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back after completing 89.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Chelsea will expire in the summer of 2028. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Villans to snap him up on the cheap before the end of this transfer period.
Will Chalobah Be A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Chalobah is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and can play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.92m, the English talent can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is currently not a regular starter at Stamford Bridge and could benefit from a change of scenery this summer.
We can expect Chalobah to add more bite and steel to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for a regular starting spot at Villa Park in the coming years.
At 25, Chalobah has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Villans to consider in this summer transfer window. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the West Midlands club if Emery manages to get him on board this summer.
