In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that West Ham United have already made a move to land AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham. It is believed that the Hammers have launched a €30m bid to sign the English striker who prefers a move to AC Milan this summer.
Abraham’s Injury Worries In Italian Football Last Season
The 26-year-old missed a lot of games for AS Roma in the previous campaign because of injuries. Abraham only featured in 12 matches for the Italian club last season, finding the back of the net once and earning one assist across all competitions.
The London-born attacker made most of his appearances off the bench which could be why he only averaged 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He was woeful when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing just 51.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Hammers to snap him up on the cheap this off-season.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Go Back In For Abraham This Summer?
Abraham is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can shoot the ball with power from all ranges and is a powerful runner with the ball at his feet. However, the English talent has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive third of the field.
Standing at 1.94m, Abraham is a towering presence inside the opponent’s penalty area and can score a few good goals with his head. However, frequent injuries have derailed his progress in Italy, so he would be a risky option for the Hammers to pursue this summer.
At 26, Abraham is about to enter his prime, so West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui could take a chance on him this summer. However, if the player has his heart set on a move elsewhere, the Hammers should not go back in with another offer for him. Lopetegui would be better off focussing on some of his other transfer targets if he wants to add more firepower to his attack ahead of the new season.
