In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport stated that Arsenal are keen on recruiting Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are actively pursuing the Swedish striker as they look to strengthen their squad in this transfer period.
Gyokeres’ Excellent Record At Sporting Last Season
Gyokeres had a fruitful campaign at the Portuguese club after he put in a lot of match-winning displays as the focal point of their attack. The Swedish talent was involved in 50 matches for Sporting CP last season, scoring 43 goals and picking up 15 assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old managed to shine with his performances in Europe as he averaged 1.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 73% in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Sporting CP will run out in the summer of 2028, so Arsenal would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Gyokeres this off-season.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring Gyokeres On Board?
Gyokeres has proven his worth as a prolific goal-scorer in Portuguese football. He can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal and has got the eye to create a few decent plays for others around him deep inside the opponent’s half.
The Swedish sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well but needs to work on improving his link-up play on the offensive end of the field. At the moment, Gyokores is playing some of the best football of his career. Hence, Arsenal would do well to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this summer transfer window.
Gyokores would add more firepower to Mikel Arteta’s attack. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season. At 26, Gyokores has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Gunners to consider this summer. Therefore, Arteta should focus on bringing him on board ahead of the new campaign.
