In a recent report, The Daily Mirror offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke. It has been claimed that Spurs are unwilling to pay the English striker’s £65m release clause to bring him to North London this summer.
Solanke’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football Last Season
Solanke had a productive campaign at the English club after he put in a string of impressive displays as the spearhead of their attack. The 26-year-old found the back of the net 21 times and secured four assists in 42 matches for the Cherries last season in multiple competitions.
The English forward led the line well for Bournemouth and deserves credit for averaging 2.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play deep inside the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 73.7% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Bournemouth will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Spurs to land him on a cut-price deal later this year.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go For Solanke This Summer?
Solanke has proven his value as a reliable finisher in front of the opponent’s goal over the past 18 months. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates up top.
The English striker is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area. However, he has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy deep inside the opposition half.
Solanke would add more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s frontline. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 26, Solanke is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to consider this summer. Hence, Postecoglu would be wise to go for a centre-forward with his skill set in this transfer window.
