In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Aston Villa are in the picture to recruit Juventus ace Federico Chiesa. It is understood that the Villans would have to pay €20m to land the Italy international this off-season.
Chiesa’s Campaign Of Mixed Emotions In Italian Football
Chiesa had an up-and-down season at the Turin club recently as he struggled to be consistent for them in Serie A football. The Italian talent played in 37 matches for Juve in the previous campaign, scoring ten goals and grabbing three assists in various competitions.
The 26-year-old gave a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.6 key passes, 1.2 crosses and 1.1 dribbles per game in Serie A. He was even excellent when distributing possession in the opposition half after completing 77.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Allianz Stadium will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for the Villans to sign him on the cheap later this summer.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Go For Chiesa?
Chiesa can make some clever runs with the ball out in the wide areas and has got the eye to cut open the opponent’s defence with a few decisive passes in the final third. He can shoot the ball with power from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. The Italian sensation mainly operates on the left wing but can also play as a right-sided wide player or as a striker down the middle if needed.
Chiesa would bring more quality and depth to Aston Villa‘s attack. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at Villa Park next season. However, there are some question marks over whether the Italian can adapt to the physical style and high intensity of Premier League football.
At 26, Chiesa is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent option for the Villans to consider this summer. Therefore, it makes sense for Emery to try and go for a player of his quality in this transfer period.
