According to GiveMeSport, Manchester United are keen on signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in the summer transfer window. The former club have even submitted an enquiry to discuss a possible move to Old Trafford.
Trevoh Chalobah is no longer in Chelsea’s plan
Trevoh Chalobah came through the ranks of Chelsea Academy and was loaned out on multiple occasions. He then finally made his debut for them in the 2021-22 season. While he has done well so far, his role has seen a diminishing curve over the past couple of seasons.
Chalobah could feature in only 17 games last season, combining not even for 1000 minutes. He averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 3.8 clearances per game and registered a goal under his name (stats via whoscored).
The English defender plays a centre-back but is also equipped well to don the defensive midfielder role. He controls his aggression well and uses it for his own benefit. He is a strong and tough defender to pass. The player is also impressive with the ball at his feet.
Manchester United have multiple options
Manchester United have already made two big signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. However, they continue to look to strengthen the defensive pack, an area where they suffered badly last season. Hence, they are running behind Trevoh Chalobah.
As things stand, Chelsea are looking to sell Chalobah this summer. The defender is not in the plans of Enzo Maresca for next season and that’s why they left him out of the pre-season squad as well.
Manchester United want to take advantage of the situation and sign the 25-year-old. However, they will have to reach an agreement with the Blues. On the other hand, the Red Devils are also linked to other defenders including the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite.
It will be interesting to see whom will Erik Ten Hag get at his disposal in the coming weeks.
