As reported by Brazilian radio station Radio Bandeirantes, Chelsea are interested in signing Gremio midfielder Gabriel Mec. The Premier League club have even formulated an offer worth €20m to sign the Brazilian teenager this summer.
Who is Gabriel Mec?
Gabriel Mec is a Gremio academy product and is one of the most highly rated talents available. Many even consider that he is the best talent to come through the academy since Brazilian legend Ronaldinho.
Mec currently plays for Gremio’s under-20 side and is yet to feature for the senior side. He featured in six games last season, netting a goal. With the senior team struggling at the 16th position in the Brasileiro Serie A, a maiden call-up for him should be on the cards.
The Brazilian kid plays as an attacking midfielder but can also feature on the wings. He is known for speed, dribbling and trickery to go past the defenders. He is often compared to Neymar due to a similar playing style on the field.
Chelsea are enjoying South American talents
Chelsea have been targeting the South American market aggressively ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake came to the helm of affairs. They have signed multiple players over the past few seasons and they aren’t looking to stop anything soon.
While Aaron Anselmino is close to joining Stamford Bridge, the Blues have already their eyes set on the next name, Gabriel Mec. The club have formulated an offer with €7m fixed and €13m in add-ons. Gremio might retain 15% of the rights of the player.
Even if the English outfit manages to crack a deal with the Brazilian side, Mec won’t be able to join them until he turns 18. Once he ticks the required age, Chelsea will look to nourish him and might even send him on loan spells.
If the player manages to make his way up to the top, he will get minutes in the senior side. Else, the Blues will try to sell him in hopes of booking profits.
