In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that West Ham United have set their sights on Lens defender Kevin Danso this summer. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the Austrian talent to the London Stadium in this transfer period.
Danso’s Impressive Record In Ligue 1
Danso had a solid campaign at the French club recently as he managed to put in a handful of dominant displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The Austrian talent made 38 appearances for Lens last season, finding the back of the net once across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He was even careful when distributing the ball from the back after making 88.1% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
Danso is under contract at the French club until the summer of 2027 which could make things tough for West Ham to sign him on the cheap later this year. However, he has still not proven his worth at the highest level and might need time to adjust to life in English football.
Should West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui Move In For Danso?
Danso is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The Austria international can use his robust 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he might struggle to maintain his good form in the Premier League. Still, West Ham should focus on getting a deal done for him this summer as he would add more bite and steel to Julen Lopetegui’s defence.
At 25, Danso is about to enter the peak stage of his career soon. Hence, he would be a great option for the Hammers to consider in this summer transfer period. At the very least, Danso is good enough to increase competition for places within Lopetegui’s match-day squad. Therefore, West Ham should think about moving in for him this summer.
