According to Football Insider, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Though the Premier League club aren’t desperate to make a move this summer, they do not rule out going after him completely.
Viktor Gyokeres delivered incredible numbers
Viktor Gyokeres made a move to Sporting CP from Coventry City last summer. He took no time to settle and started hitting the ground in his very first season. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed as several European clubs are keen on signing him.
Gyokeres delivered extraordinary numbers last season, where he ended up scoring 43 goals in 50 games. He also provided 15 assists in the process. He averaged 1.9 shots, 1.1 key passes, and 1 dribble per game (stats via whoscored).
The Swedish attacker is a complete modern-era striker. He is fast, physically strong, and a technically sound player. He links up well with teammates, dribbles, and provides key passes. Unsurprisingly, the player is clinical with his finishes and long-range shots.
Liverpool are focusing on other subjects
Liverpool doesn’t require a striker on an urgent basis as they have the position secured. The club is focusing more on other matters like Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s contract renewal. However, a move for Viktor Gyokeres cannot be ruled out completely.
A change in the mind of new boss Arne Slot might force the Reds to go after a striker. However, it will be tough for them to sign Gyokeres as he has a release clause of £86 million. The amount seems a bit high but the player can surely justify the price tag.
The 26-year-old’s abilities in the final third will help Liverpool to secure more goals upfront. He is at the peak of his powers and can give many years at the highest level. Apart from the Reds, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing to sign the talented player.
