Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed Barcelona star Raphinha is generating interest from Aston Villa this summer. It is believed that the Villans are hoping to make a big move to sign the Brazilian winger from the Catalan club this summer.
Raphinha’s Impressive Form In La Liga Football
Raphinha had a great campaign at the Nou Camp recently as he was responsible for putting in a string of productive displays for them on the offensive third of the pitch. The Brazil international found the back of the net ten times and earned 13 assists in 37 matches for the Catalan giants last season across various competitions.
The 27-year-old was a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in La Liga. He even distributed possession relatively well after completing 80.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Hansi Flick will be under no pressure to cash in on him in this transfer period.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Cut Raphinha Loose?
Raphinha can be a hard man to stop when he is running at full swing in the opponent’s half. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third.
The Brazil international can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. He mainly operates as a right-winger but can also play as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
Raphinha remains one of the most important members of Barca‘s squad. Thus, Hansi Flick should consider keeping hold of the Brazilian wing wizard beyond this summer transfer window. Raphinha is good enough to help the Catalan club compete for some major silverware over the next few years.
Plus, the South American talent is still under a long-term contract at the Nou Camp. Therefore, Flick should not think about cutting him loose unless he receives an astronomical fee for his services in this summer transfer period.
