In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Feyenoord ace Santiago Gimenez. It has been mentioned that Spurs are continuing to monitor the situation of the Mexican striker.
Gimenez’s Impressive Record In Dutch Football
Gimenez experienced a fine campaign at the Dutch club recently as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in front of the opposition goal. The Mexico international scored 26 times and secured eight assists in 41 matches for Feyenoord last season in all competitions.
The 23-year-old managed to give a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 3.6 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play up top after making just 69.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Feyenoord will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap before the end of this transfer period.
Is Gimenez A Decent Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?
Gimenez is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He can be a good finisher up top and has got the eye to set up some decent chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.
The Mexican talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play deep inside the opponent’s half. Furthermore, he might struggle to maintain his good form in the Premier League if Tottenham manage to bring him on board this summer.
Gimenez would bring more firepower to Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He is more than capable of challenging for regular first-team football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, Gimenez has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great fit for the North London club‘s needs in the long run. However, Postecoglu would have to give him some time to settle into life in England.
