In a recent edition of ESPN FC (via manchestercity.news), pundit Craig Burley urged Barcelona to move in for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez. Burley said,
“Well, to be honest with you, I mean, [Julian] Alvarez would probably get into that Barcelona side. If they don’t sign Nico Williams, you know, he can play anywhere in that front three.”
Alvarez’s Excellent Record At Man City Last Season
Alvarez enjoyed an impressive campaign at Man City recently as he managed to impress at times for them in the final third. The 24-year-old did well to score 19 times and picked up 13 assists in 54 appearances for the Mancunian club last season across all fronts.
The Calchin-born talent was a consistent performer in front of the opponent’s goal based on his average of 2.7 shots, 1.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession on the offensive end of the field after completing 87.9% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Alvarez is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2028 which won’t be it easy for Barcelona to snap him up on the cheap later this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Bring Alvarez To The Nou Camp?
Alvarez is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half. The Argentine talent is a great dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate as a right-sided wide player if told to do so.
We can expect Alvarez to enhance the quality of Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting place at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons.
At 24, Alvarez is about to enter his prime which makes him a great option for the Catalan club to pursue in this transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League. Still, Barcelona should consider going all out to bring Alvarez to the Nou Camp soon.
