In a recent report, Gianluca Di Marzio mentioned that Newcastle United have identified AC Milan ace Malick Thiaw as a target for this transfer window. It is understood that the Magpies are eyeing a move to secure the services of the German centre-back this summer.
Thiaw’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Thiaw experienced a decent campaign at the Milan club after he put in a series of solid performances at the heart of their defence. The German talent played in 30 matches for AC Milan last season, picking up one assist across all competitions.
The 22-year-old was a good performer on the defensive end of the pitch as he averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 91.6% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the San Siro will expire in the summer of 2027. Therefore, the Toffees would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about landing Thiaw this off-season.
What Will Thiaw Bring To Newcastle United?
Thiaw is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is an accurate passer of the ball.
The German sensation can even use his strong 1.94m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he might need some time to settle into life in the Premier League if the Magpies manage to bring him on board this summer.
At 22, Thiaw has the potential to be a future star in European football. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s defensive department. He might even help the Tyneside club challenge across all fronts over the next decade.
Therefore, the Magpies would be wise to try everything they can to lure Thiaw to St. James’ Park in this summer transfer period. However, Howe would have to be patient with his progress before he can unlock the best out of the youngster at the Tyneside club.
