In a recent report, TuttoJuve mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are still keen on signing Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez. It has been stated that Spurs are eager to bring the Mexican striker to North London in this transfer window.
Gimenez’s Impressive Record In Dutch Football Last Season
Gimenez enjoyed a prolific campaign at the Dutch club as he was responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old banged in 26 goals and picked up eight assists in 41 appearances for Feyenoord last season across all competitions.
The Mexican talent led the line well for his current club based on his average of 3.6 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he lacked quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half as he completed 69.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Spurs to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this ongoing transfer period.
What Will Gimenez Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Gimenez can engineer some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates up top and has proven his worth as a decent finisher in Dutch football. The Mexican talent can even make some powerful runs with the ball. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive end of the field.
Gimenez is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season. He would bring more firepower to Angelos Postecoglu’s frontline. The Mexico international has what it takes to help Spurs compete across all fronts in the coming years.
At 23, the future looks quite bright for Gimenez as long as he continues to develop with each season. Hence, Tottenham would be wise to bring him to the English capital this off-season. However, he might struggle to adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Spurs manage to land him this summer.
