In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport (live blog for Thursday 18th July – 10:45am) stated that Everton are close to signing Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees are inching closer to recruiting the Danish talent this off-season.
Lindstrom’s Difficult Season In Italian Football
The 24-year-old experienced a difficult season at Napoli recently as he failed to prove his worth as a reliable performer for them in the final third. Linstrom played in 29 matches for the Napled-based club last season but struggled to find the back of the net or engineer a goal for them in various competitions.
The Danish wing wizard saw most of his appearances come as a substitute which could be why he only averaged 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He was tidy when distributing possession after making 84.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
Lindstrom’s current contract at Napoli will expire in the summer of 2028 which means that the Toffees would have to launch a big move if they are serious about signing him in this transfer window.
Should Everton Get Lindstrom On Board This Summer?
Lindstrom is a good dribbler with the ball when he is playing well on the field. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to orchestrate a few inviting chances for others around him in the final third.
However, the Danish sensation has struggled to be prolific in front of the opponent’s goal. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
We can expect Lindstrom to add more firepower to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s attack. He is good enough to serve as a decent, rotational piece in the Merseyside club‘s match-day squad.
At 24, Lindstrom has his best years ahead of him but might struggle to cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Everton manage to snap him up this summer. With all things considered, the Toffees should focus on getting him on board but only if he is available for the right price.
