In a recent print edition, The Sunday Mirror (14 July, Page 78) stated that Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Bayern Munich ace Serge Gnabry this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies could make a £40m move to acquire the services of the German wing wizard this off-season.
Gnabry’s Injury-Ravaged Season At The Allianz Arena
Gnabry suffered a lot of injuries in the previous campaign which ravaged his progress at the German club. The German talent made 20 appearances for the Bavarian giants last season, scoring five goals and securing a couple of assists in all competitions.
The 29-year-old was a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 87.3% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to consider this summer.
Will Gnabry Be A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Gnabry is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for others around him on the offensive end of the field.
The German sensation can even shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. However, frequent injuries have hampered his progress at Bayern Munich. Thus, the player might benefit from a change of scenery in search of greener pastures this summer.
We can expect Gnabry to add more goals and creativity to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He is more than capable of earning a regular starting spot at the Tyneside club in the coming years.
At 29, Gnabry is playing in his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Magpies to consider this summer. He would even help Newcastle challenge across all fronts in the future.
