In a recent report, AS mentioned that Real Madrid are eyeing a summer move for Lazio defender Mario Gila. It is believed that Los Blancos have identified the Spanish centre-back as a target for this summer transfer window.
Gila’s Impressive Run Of Form In Italian Football
Gila had a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the field. The 23-year-old made 29 appearances for Lazio last season but failed to score or assist a goal for them on all fronts.
The Spanish talent was a dominant presence when defending inside his half as he averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in Serie A. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 90.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Lazio will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Real Madrid to recruit him on the cheap this off-season.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Gila Up?
Gila is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball as well. Standing at 1.85m, the Spanish central defender can be a strong presence in the air and has done well to prove his worth as a reliable defender in Spain.
We can expect Gila to add more quality and depth to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Madrid club in the coming seasons.
At 23, Gila has the potential to be a future star in Spanish football. He has what it takes to help Los Blancos compete for a lot of major honours over the next decade. Gila already knows La Liga well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
With all things considered, Ancelotti would be wise to try everything in his power to snap the Spanish defensive ace up before the end of this summer transfer window.
