According to The Sun, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Xavi Simons in the summer window. The Premier League club see him as a long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes, who might leave the club before next season.
Xavi Simons is already hitting the ground
Xavi Simons is a La Masia product, who came into the limelight during his youth days. Failing to reach an agreement with Barcelona, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2019. Since then, he has been loaned out to a couple of clubs and has yet to cement his spot in the French outfit.
Simons played for RB Leipzig this season, where he lit up the stage with his performances. He produced 10 goals and provided 15 assists in 43 games. He averaged 2.4 shots, 2.4 key passes, and 2.2 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutch midfield is versatile to play in the middle or on either flank. He is known for his creativity in the final third. He can make good runs, dribble, and provide through balls and key passes. With excellent shooting technique, he becomes a complete package.
A perfect fill for Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is reportedly open to exiting the club after a horrible last season. He hasn’t made up his mind but as the interest from Saudi intensifies, a summer move cannot be ruled out completely.
Hence, the Red Devils must prepare for the situation. The management believe PSG midfielder Xavi Simons can be an ideal fit to fill the Portuguese’s shoes. As both the players are known for a similar playing style, it would be a like-to-like replacement.
The 21-year-old is expected to improve his game further. He can be a long-term investment for the English outfit as he has yet to hit his peak years. However, Manchester United will have to spend somewhere around €80 million to get his services.
