In a recent print edition, Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) stated that Newcastle United are locked in a three-way battle for Juventus ace Matias Soule this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies would have to rival Leicester City and Aston Villa in the race to secure the services of the Argentine wide player this off-season.
Soule’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Soule had a fruitful campaign at the Allianz Stadium as he was responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays for Juventus in the final third. The 21-year-old banged in 11 goals and picked up three assists in 39 appearances for Juve last season in all competitions.
The Argentine sensation has been a decent performer on the right flank based on his average of 2.3 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Juventus will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Magpies to get a deal done for him on the cheap later this year.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Move In For Soule?
Soule is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team from the right flank.
The Argentine sensation is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create some decent plays for others around him on the offensive end of the field. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
We can expect Soule to add more quality and depth to Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s attack. He has what it takes to help the Tyneside club compete across all fronts in the coming years.
At 21, Soule has got the ceiling to be a future star at St. James’ Park. Therefore, Howe would be wise to move in for him before the end of this summer transfer period.
