In a recent print edition, SportBild (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Aston Villa are facing stiff competition for Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier this summer. It has been claimed that the Villans would have to rival Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion in the race to land the German striker this off-season.
Beier’s Impressive Record In Bundesliga Last Season
Beier enjoyed a productive campaign at the German club after he produced a series of impressive performances for them in the final third. The 21-year-old scored 16 times and secured three assists in 35 appearances for Hoffenheim last season across all competitions.
The German sensation was a consistent performer up top and deserves some credit for averaging 2.5 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 73.5% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for the Villans to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
Aston Villa Are Facing Stiff Competition For Beier: Is He Worth The Fight?
Beier has proven himself to be a capable finisher in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He can create the odd chance for his teammates up top and can make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas.
The German sensation can even strike the ball well from long range. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top. Furthermore, there are some concerns over whether Beier can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
We can expect Beier to add more firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s attack if the Villans can devise a way to get him on board this summer. At 21, the German has the potential to be a future star in Premier League football. Thus, he would be well worth the fight, so Emery should go all out to lure him to Villa Park before the end of this summer transfer period.
