In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport stated that Aston Villa have made a move to land Juventus playmaker Federico Chiesa this summer. It has been stated that the Villans are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Italy international this off-season.
Chiesa’s Impressive Form In Italian Football Last Season
Chiesa enjoyed a decent run of form at the Turin club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The 26-year-old scored ten times and earned three assists in 37 matches for Juve last season across all competitions.
The Italian talent has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Serie A. He was even excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 77.3% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Turin club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Aston Villa could potentially snap him up on a cut-price deal later this year.
What Will Chiesa Add To Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Side?
Chiesa is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances in the final third and can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. However, the Italian sensation has to find a way to improve his productivity in front of the opponent’s goal.
Chiesa is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-winger or as a striker up top if needed. We can expect him to add more firepower to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s frontline.
At 26, Chiesa has his prime years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Villans to pursue this summer. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
