According to The Sun, Chelsea are impressed with Rennes attacker Desire Doue’s progress over the past couple of seasons. The Premier League are even considering a summer move to acquire the youngster and nourish him for the upcoming years.
The rising stakes of Desire Doue
Desire Doue joined Rennes Academy at a young age and has been associated with them since then. He had to work hard on his game to climb up the ladders. Impressed with his glimpses, he got a chance in the senior team for the first time in August 2022.
Though Doue isn’t a mandated part of the starting lineup, his contributions cannot be denied. He featured in 43 games this season, netted four goals and provided six assists. He averaged 1.4 shots, 1.1 key passes, and 2 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Frenchman is versatile enough to play multiple roles on the offensive front. However, many believe that he would be a better-attacking midfielder than a winger. He exploits the spaces well, can dribble, and shoots from long range. Not to forget, how the player also contributes in the defensive aspects.
A long-term investment for Chelsea
Chelsea have been investing aggressively in young talents ever since the new owners took charge. They are backing the idea of nourishing the players and using them as per their developments. The case with Desire Doue should be no different.
Doue is an exciting talent, who has the qualities to emerge into an elite attacker. He has already started hitting the ground and is expected to get better and better. With proper coaching and game time, he can add more features to his game.
The 19-year-old won’t be a starter at Stamford Bridge but can be used to rotate players. However, the Blues will have to make quick moves as multiple clubs are keeping an eye on the youngster. The list includes the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Manchester United, etc.
