According to Football Insider, Manchester City are impressed with Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon’s progress. The Premier League Champions are even planning to make a move to sign the player ahead of next season.
Anthony Gordon is on the rise
Anthony Gordon was signed by Newcastle United in the winter of 2023 from Everton. After a slow start at his new home, the player shifted to a different gear and started exploding with his performances. His impressive displays helped him establish himself as a regular feature on the team sheet.
Gordon enjoyed a good season recently, where he found the back of the net 12 times in 48 games. He also provided 11 assists in the process. He averaged 2 shots, 1.4 key passes, and 1.3 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The English international mainly plays on the left wing but can feature in other advanced positions. He is tall, quick, and covers a lot of ground. He is a technically sound lad who is known for his finishing, through balls, and key passes.
Another winger for Manchester City
Manchester City’s boss Pep Guardiola has always cherished the players who execute good control over the ball. No wonder he is also impressed with Anthony Gordon as the player is technically gifted. He does a lot of hard work on the field and contributes on the offensive front.
With Kevin De Bruyne entering into the twilight of his career, and the uncertainty over the future of Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish at Etihad Stadium, the Citizens are supposed to bring in new attackers. Therefore, the pursuit of Gordan is being considered at the club.
The 23-year-old has been impressive in the Premier League so far and is expected to improve further. He could be a good long-term investment for Manchester City. However, they know that the player’s signature will not come at a cheap price.
Reportedly, Liverpool were also interested in the youngster but failed to match Newcastle United’s demands.
