In a recent report, journalist Dean Jones revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs have identified the Mexican forward as a target for this transfer window.
Gimenez’s Decent Run Of Form In Dutch Football
Gimenez produced a series of impressive displays as the focal point of Feyenoord’s attack during this campaign. The Mexican talent featured in 41 matches for the Dutch outfit last season, scoring 26 times and securing eight assists in the process across all competitions.
The 23-year-old led the line well for his team based on his average of 3.6 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he has been a bit sloppy when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 69.2% in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Spurs to get a deal over the line on the cheap this off-season.
What Will Gimenez Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Gimenez is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Mexican talent has proven his worth as a consistent goal-scorer in the final third. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play on the offensive end of the field. We can expect Gimenez to bring more firepower to Tottenham Hotspur boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack.
At 23, Gimenez has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to consider in the summer transfer window. He would help the North London giants compete for some major honours over the next decade.
Postecoglu could be the ideal man to unlock the best out of Gimenez at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years. All in all, the London outfit should consider trying everything they can to bring him to the English capital before the end of this transfer window.
