In a recent report, The Athletic stated that Arsenal have identified Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia as a target. It has been claimed that the Gunners are eyeing the Spanish goalie as a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale this summer.
Garcia’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football Last Season
Garcia produced a series of impressive displays for Espanyol in La Liga last season. The 23-year-old did well to appear in 21 matches for the Spanish outfit in the previous campaign, shipping in ten goals and earning 12 clean sheets in the process across multiple competitions.
The Spanish custodian has caught the eye at times with his performances in the Spanish top tier. He is currently amongst the best young keepers in his homeland. Hence, the Gunners would do well to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
His current contract at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Gunners to land him this summer.
Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Bring Garcia To North London This Summer?
Garcia is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes that help him make a few important saves at the back. He usually puts his foot through the ball when being chased down by the opposition attackers.
The Spanish keeper has earned some valuable experience in La Liga 2. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to settle into life in the Premier League if the Gunners manage to bring him on board this off-season.
Standing at 1.91m, Garcia can be a towering presence inside his half. We can expect him to bring more quality to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s match-day squad. He is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to David Raya at the Emirates Stadium next season.
Furthermore, Garcia is good enough to replace Aaron Ramsdale at the North London club. At 23, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Gunners to pursue in this transfer window. With all things considered, Arteta would be wise to bring Garcia to the North London club before the start of the new Premier League campaign.
