In a recent tweet, le10sport journalist stated that West Ham United have made an offer north of €20m for FC Metz forward Georges Mikautadze this summer. It has been claimed that the Hammers would have to rival Monaco and Lens in the race to land the gifted striker this off-season.
Mikautadze’s Decent Loan Spell At Metz Last Season
The Georgia international experienced a fruitful loan spell at Metz recently after he produced a series of productive displays for them in Ligue 1. Mikautadze scored 13 times and picked up four assists in 20 league appearances for the French outfit last season.
The 23-year-old was a good contributor in the final third and did well to average 2.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. However, he lacked quality when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 74.7% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Mikautadze managed to shine for Georgia at times in the UEFA Euro 2024 which kicked off in Germany last month. Hence, West Ham would do well to win the race for his services this summer.
Is Mikautadze A Decent Fit For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Mikautadze is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. Mikautadze has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
However, there are some question marks over whether the Georgia international would be able to handle the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if West Ham manage to bring him on board this summer.
At 23, Mikautadze has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for Julen Lopetegui’s needs this summer. Therefore, the Hammers would be wise to move in for the Georgian sensation in this transfer period.
Mikautadze is good enough to enhance the quality of West Ham‘s frontline. He might even help the Hammers challenge on all fronts in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Lopetegui would be wise to get a deal done for him this off-season.
