In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona have identified Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Belgian talent later this year.
Onana’s Impressive Run Of Form At Goodison Park
Onana had a solid campaign at the Merseyside club recently as he was responsible for putting in a run of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 22-year-old made 37 appearances for the Toffees last season, scoring three times and earning one assist across all competitions.
The Belgian talent has been a decent contributor at the heart of Everton’s midfield based on his average of 2.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.0 shots and 0.6 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 84.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Goodison Park will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Barcelona to arrange a cut-price move for him this off-season.
What Will Onana Add To Barcelona Boss Hnasi Flick’s Side?
Onana is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Belgian sensation can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
Onana would add more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s midfield department. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp in the coming years.
At 22, the future looks quite promising for Onana as long as he continues to develop with each season. Furthermore, he might help the Catalan club cope with fixture congestion better in the future. Thus, he would be a great choice for Barca but only if they can get him for a fair price later this summer.
