Tottenham Hotspur Are Among The Clubs Hoping To Land This Ligue 1 Forward: Good Option For Spurs?

In a recent report, journalists Sean Walsh and Ben Jacobs revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs hoping to land Lille forward Jonathan David. It is understood that Spurs are facing competition from Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham United in pursuit of the Canadian international this summer.

David’s Decent Run Of Form In Ligue 1 Last Season

The 24-year-old experienced a fruitful campaign at the French club as he put in a series of productive displays for them in front of the opponent’s goal. David scored 26 goals and secured nine assists in 47 appearances for Lille last season across all fronts.

The Canadian talent has been a decent contributor for his team in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He was even accurate when distributing possession in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the French club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Spurs to sign him on the cheap in this transfer period.

Is David A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?

David excels at creating some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.

The Canadian talent has proven himself to be a capable goal-getter in Ligue 1. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.

We can expect David to bring more firepower to Tottenham Hotspur head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.

At 24, David has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to consider at the end of this campaign. He is a consistent goal-scorer who might help the London club challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Hence, he would be an excellent option for Tottenham to consider later this summer.
