In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Arsenal have identified Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida as a target. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Dutch full-back but are facing competition from Liverpool in pursuit of him this summer.
Geertruida’s Impressive Form In The Dutch Eredivisie Last Season
Geertruida has proven himself to be a consistent performer on the right side of Feyenoord’s backline in the previous campaign. The 23-year-old made 34 appearances for the Dutch outfit last season, scoring eight goals and securing five assists on all fronts.
The Dutch talent has been a positive influence at both ends of the field as he averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 91.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will expire at the end of next season which could give the Gunners a chance to land him on a cut-price deal later this summer.
What Will Geertruida Bring To Arsenal?
Geertruida is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Dutch can strike the ball well from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third. He is an energetic runner with the ball as well.
We can expect Geertruida to bring more quality and depth to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s defensive department. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 23, Geertruida has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to pursue in this summer transfer window. He has entered the final year of his contract at Feyenoord, so Arsenal would be wise to make a cut-price move for him later this year.
