In a recent tweet, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Aston Villa are in talks to recruit Everton winger Lewis Dobbin. It has been mentioned that the Villans are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the English wide player this summer.
Dobbin’s Limited Role At Goodison Park
Dobbin played a sporadic role in Everton’s match-day squad in the previous campaign but managed to catch the eye at times on the left side of their attack. The English talent participated in 12 appearances for the Toffees in the league last season, scoring one goal in the process.
The 21-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.4 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has been accurate when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 75.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Dobbin is under contract at the Merseyside club until the end of next season. Thus, the Villans could potentially snap him up on the cheap later this year.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Launch A Move For Dobbin?
Dobbin can shoot the ball well from long range and has got the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third. He is an energetic runner with the ball but is in dire need to earn more first-team starts in the coming years if he wants to get his career back on track.
We can expect Dobbin to bring more energy and depth to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s attack. He would undoubtedly enhance the quality of the West Midlands club’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
At 21, Dobbin has got the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, he would be a great option for the Villans to pursue in the long run. However, Howe has to be patient with his development if he wants to get the best out of the youngster.
Dobbin is good enough to help the Villans cope with fixture congestion better in the coming seasons. Thus, it makes sense for Aston Villa to launch a move for him in this summer transfer window.
