It’s been a busy summer so far for Rangers who are now set to announce the signing of Yusuf Kabadayi in the coming days. The rumours have been floating around in various outlets, and according to The Scottish Sun, the Bayern Munich youngster could follow Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala and Connor Barron to become the latest recruit under Philippe Clement.
The 20-year-old German U20 international progressed through Bayern’s academy ranks and featured for their reserves for two consecutive campaigns. He spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Schalke in 2. Bundesliga where he fired in four goals in 23 league games (stats via Transfermarket).
Why It Would Be A Shrewd Signing For Rangers
While he mostly featured as a substitute in the Royal Blues colours, his flexibility across the frontline could be a welcome boost for the Glasgow giants. They have already parted ways with Kemar Roofe upon the expiration of his Ibrox contract, also, Sam Lammers is expected to return to FC Utrecht after an impressive loan stint with the Eredivisie side with 10 goals in 18 outings. Brighton & Hove Albion are yet to make a call on the future of Abdallah Sima whereas the Gers are unlikely to bring back Wolves star Fabio Silva after an underwhelming winter loan. Clement, therefore, must rebuild their forward line by striking a balance between youth and experience.
Although they still have Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright and Tom Lawrence among wide attacking options, none of them played a key role due to form and fitness reasons. Wright has not done enough in all these years to cement a first-team role whereas injuries refrained both Lawrence and Matondo from making a difference week in, week out. Ross McCausland has been a bright spark since being promoted to the senior setup, but the young Northern Irishman needs more time to flourish his game, both in terms of tactical awareness and physical traits.
Rangers are well-equipped high up the pitch with Cyriel Dessers and Danilo set to challenge and cover each other for the ‘number 9’ role. Kabadayi might not be deployed as a centre-forward, however, his dribbling and link-up play could help him cause menace against tired legs.
The Light Blues have retained Cortes who must contribute more after an injury-ravaged loan from Lens, and it remains to be seen whether the Belgian boss relies on him as a first-team starter or brings him into action as an impact substitute.
