It might seem natural that players at Chelsea would be a happy and contented lot, especially with the team on course to win the English Premier League and not to forget the neat pay packages they pocket over at the Stamford Bridge. With an enviable combo of money and success, that too in arguably the best league in the world, it might seem a desire to leave the club will be redundant in the players.
But according to latest reports, the same view is not shared by Chelsea No.1 Thibaut Courtois, who has apparently set his heart on a move to Real Madrid in the summer. This would be shocking news, especially with player loved during his time at arch-rivals Atletico Madrid. But that is seemingly not enough to deter Courtois’ ambition to play for Real. His family still lives in Madrid and the Belgian sees his long-term future away from Stamford Bridge.
With these reports might be a distraction for the Blues, let us take a look at 3 possible goalkeepers who can be targeted by Antonio Conte to ably replace the Belgian if he indeed leaves.
GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA (17)
The 17-year-old Italian has been dubbed the new ‘Buffon’ after breaking through the ranks at the Serie A giants, and Milan are desperate to keep hold of the talented teenager with a contract extension. Donnarumma’s current deal is due to run out in 18 months. But the teenager is apparently stalling on a new deal and might welcome a move elsewhere. If he decides to move, there will be a queue for his signature but Conte’s Italian connections give him an advantage.
JOE HART (29)
Might be an unconventional choice and a bit far-fetched given the background of the two teams but the treatment meted out to him has ensured that the player won’t have an issue moving to a title rival. He knows the Premier League like the back of his hands and is a Champion in his own right.
A brilliant shot stopper, he has rescued many a match for City over the years and with Conte not having any infatuation with keepers being brilliant with their feet, he would find not difficulties in settling in.
JAN OBLAK (24)
The Atletico Madrid keeper hasn’t been having the best of seasons as far as results with his club are concerned but he has not done his reputation much harm. He was brought in as Courtois’ replacement at Vicente Calderon and history might repeat itself at Stamford Bridge. He is considered as one of the best in the world in the position and will be a coup if Chelsea can sign him. He has already kept 7 clean sheets this term and is looking good for much more.
